On Thursday 28th May, Croydon became the first London borough to be awarded social enterprise status, having over 120 businesses regestered as social enterprises.

Why is that there doesn’t seem to be enough women running tech businesses?

While women are making headway in finance and law, tech doors seem virtually closed to women, with women leaving this industry at a rate twice as fast as men.

A recent report by the Anita Borg Institute, cites that a lack of promotions available for women, long periods of time away from the family and a unwelcoming corporate cultures are to blame.

“Tech has a 24/7 culture and women need a more flexible balance”.

Another factor is that On 1st January 2015 in the European Union, VAT liability  switched from the country where the product is sold to the country where the consumer buys it. These rules will only apply to digital products such as e-books, e-courses, recorded training videos, music or audio downloads etc. However, Sole Traders, will be particularly hard hit.
